May Dinner Dance
21 May 2010

- from our roving reporter: Ian McKernan &
roving photographer: Janice Stone

On 21 May our first May Dinner dance was held at the Restaurant Paraiso, Parcent and attended by some 60 people. Boots and khaki were abandoned for the night and replaced by light and lacy apparel and backpacks swopped for ornamental accessories. Congratulations to the lady (anon) for her atomic dress………………with 90% fallout! The men had also made big efforts with one of our more popular members, accompanied by yet another attractive female, looking cool and relaxed and light years ahead of the competition in his indigenous mode of dress influenced during the Spanish colonisation of the archipelago and reminiscent of the attire he wore on the ascent of the West Bernia ridge last year.

The 3 course meal with a wide range of interesting choices was excellent and the addition of a small cup of soup sampler plus sorbet betwixt courses was a nice surprise. Washed down with ˝ litre of wine per person and coffee plus a pre-dinner drink on arrival represented wonderful value at 18 euros per head.

The live entertainment was provided by The Zodiacs, two effervescent young men who quickly encouraged dancers onto the floor. Peter O’Neil decided it would be wiser to remain firmly rooted to his seat. Their repertoire featured songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s and included popular songs such as Macho Man by Village People, Dancing Queen by Abba and  I’m Coming Out by Diana Ross. Pete Green as usual needed no encouragement as he commenced his gyrations on the dance floor well before the music started! The dancing continued into the early hours of the morning.

Many thanks to Val, Peter, Jan and Alma for arranging such a memorable evening. The Restaurant Paraiso has been booked for the CBMW Christmas lunch plus live entertainment on Thursday 9 December.
