from our roving reporters

31st January 2007 - Benimaurell 'Figure of 8'

John Lyons telephoned Jean early on Wednesday morning to let her know that he was calling off his walk because of the severe wet conditions. Despite this the intrepid walkers from Calpe (Jean, Ian, Bill, Lorraine & Charles) decided that to stave off the on-set of cabin fever we would risk a drive to Benimaurell suitably armed with plenty of coffee money should we be met with inclement weather. To our surprise the conditions were good although a little damp. The Figure of Eight walk was ably led by Jean Russell and she was supported by 17 enthusiastic walkers. The weather held together and the walk was completed in 4½ hours and thoroughly enjoyed by all. After the walk it was decided to give our business to the bar opposite the Bar Oasis and it proved a good choice as the atmosphere was bright and cheerful and the sparkling toilets a plus, especially for the ladies after their adventures in the bushes!

27th January 2007 - Sierra de Carrasco Ridge

Only the leader turned up for this walk - the weather obvious put everyone else off. Well done Gordon for being dedicated!

Unfortunately no reports were filed for 24th January

20th January 2007 - Barranco de la Canal & Al Ambra Castle

A lively crowd left Pego (27) to do the walk 'in reverse' making it complusory for all to visit 'Al Ambra Castle' - normally missed out on the return to Pego, owing to the bar being almost in sight.

Another glorious day. Walk co-ordinator Gavin Greatrax found 'most' of the tracks and assures us he will know 'all' the walk by next year.

Actual ascent (including visit to Castle) 660m (recorded by Mike Granville's Xmas present).

17th January 2007 - Barranco del Infierno

Dave's walk - 17 people (and two well behaved dogs at the rear) turned out on a glorious day. Walk completed in 4.5 hours and lunch takne on the Carrasca Ridge in glorious sunshine. Returned to Val D'Ebo where everybody finished the day with a drink in the sun (albeit 3 ended up in a different watering hole)

30th September 2006 - 2000 Steps (variant) & Two Summits above Pego

The heat took its toll on both walks on Saturday.

Charles les 40 walkers from Benimaurell at a moderate steady pace losing people having hot flushes, a handful abandoning after the first hour or so, two lost and then found, plus sufferers of fatigue and dehydration on the homeward strait.

The VS's who joined Dave Harbach in Pego were also affected by the heat, but managed to complete the course.

Even more 'liquid' was drank after the walks this week.
