- From our roving reporter: Ian McKernan I was out with Charles & Kath yesterday doing a recce of the Bamboo Curtain (armed with secateurs, machetes and a JCB) which gave us the opportunity to assess the progress of the roadworks betwixt Benigembla & Castell de Castells. You will see from the attached pictures that little progress has been made but Jose the owner of Bar Bonaire informed us that completion is forecast for March (mmm.. I can't see it being finished by then, but you never know they just might get their fingers out - Ed). See pic....................the road is now blocked off to vehicular traffic about 500m from Benigembla which you can see in the distance above Kath's head.
- From our foreign correspondent: Anne Tweddell Our foreign correspondent in Castells, Anne Tweddell has sent in her latest report, with pictures, on the conditions of the road. The Benigembla to Castell de Castells road is now completely blocked by bolders at the Castells end and Anne suspects that it is a similar situation at the Benigembla end, as it was blocked on the 21st Nov with boulders, but she didn't go down that far last Friday. The situation is as fluid as ever but there are various rumours circulating concerning the contractors. On Friday there was only a skeleton crew working until lunchtime. The possibility exists that there is no money and also that the contractors may change. When Anne took the photos there was no one working, only 3-4 machines still in evidence giving hope that something might happen. No one knows when the work will be completed.
