Percy's Speech
Percy shows his skills

PERCY MILLER REACHES HIS TON. Congratulations to Percy Miller of Moraira who entered his 11th decade on 16 April 2007. Percy is the oldest member of the CBMWs and his magnificent achievement is unlikely to be challenged. His birthday was celebrated with 116 friends and fellow pilgrims from the Costa Blanca Mountain Walkers at the Restaurant Piscina Parcent on 17 April. Before the celebratory meal commences Percy completed a walk betwixt Jalon & Parcent to demonstrate the benefits of regular and strenuous exercise coupled with healthy mountain air. It was on his 90th birthday that his colleagues from the CBMWs arranged for him to abseil down a crag just outside the village of Tormos so he can be forgiven for not wishing to repeat the feat having already acquired the T-shirt. Percy attributes his health and longevity to his love of exercise, fresh orange juice and an ability to go through life without worrying along with his firm Christian faith. Percy has loved sport all his life and was a demon fast bowler for Harrow Town CC and until he was 60 he opened the bowling for his club West Wirrall. Tennis and skiing then took over in order for him to join the younger family members on their holidays in the Pyrenees. When he was 85 he climbed up Helvelyn in the Lake District and also walked along Striding Edge. Percy lives near Moraira and is widowed following the sad demise in 2005 of his wife Joyce to whom he was married for 56 years. For many years he was Treasurer of the Anglican Church Committee. For gentler pursuits he plays Bridge and keeps his mind active with solving crossword puzzles. Percy is very popular with both the older generation and the younger and is at his sparkling best when offering kind words of advice to a pretty girl. His thick, luxurious and unruly mop of hair draws many an admiring glance. He is a wonderful example to everyone of what can be accomplished if we set our minds to it. So set your goals and go for it. Well done Percy! Thanks to Ian McKernan for words & photos |
