Costa Blanca Mountain Walkers

The CBMW is a group of people who get together twice a week to enjoy walking in the mountains of the Costa Blanca region of Spain.  Walkers who act as leaders are not formally trained or registered and take no responsibility for their companions - You walk at your own risk.  Whilst every effort is made to ensure accuracy, the time stated for each walk will always depend on the fitness and ability of the walkers and also the conditions on the day of the walk.

Anyone is welcome to come along.

We are not a registered/affiliated club and therefore have no membership, subscriptions or rules.
We do however ask everyone who walks with us to make an annual voluntary contribution towards the cost of our websites.  This year's contribution is 3 Euros per person.  A key ring with our logo will be given to those that contribute by way of both a receipt and a thank you.  These can be attached to your rucksack should you wish.

We do however a short list of Conventions which act as guidelines and hopefully are an aid to walkers and leaders alike. Everyone is required to read these Conventions as a condition for walking with us and for downloading each season's programme.

Dr Graham Mellows (Aged 72)

We have recieved the following sad news from a cousin of Graham.

Dear Webmaster,

I don’t know if this is the most appropriate email address for news about members, but it was the only email address I could find.

I just wanted to let the members know of the recent decease of one of the regular walkers, Graham Mellows, who had a villa in Monte Pego, and usually walked with his French partner Monique.

He passed away in St Barts Hospital, London, 11th September.

I am one of Graham’s cousins and stayed with him and Monique in Monte Pego in 2012 and last year and accompanied them on some of the walks on both occasions.

Best Wishes
Brian

Graham and his French partner Monique have walked with us for many years. A remarkably fit couple who walked with us in the winter and spent their summers cycling in Europe.

Having gained a doctorate at university Graham worked in the pharmaceutical industry. He was Director of Research at Beechams and in later life set up his own business advising pharmaceutical companies on clinical trails. He died of lymphoma cancer which he had received treatment for a few years ago.

We send our condolences to Monique. Their compnay in the mountains will be missed by many of us.

Peter Reason- Past Trips & Social Secretary to 2005

We have received the following news from Llona Martin

Dear Carol

Sadly Peter passed away on Wednesday 15th October 2014 at 3am – he managed to celebrate his 90th Birthday on 13th June with a few of the older members of the CBMW’s.

A Memorial service will be held on Sunday 26th October at the Ermita on the Jesus Pobre starting at 0945 and as Father Marcus Ronchetti says:

“We will offer the normal service in memory of Peter, and we will refer to him during the prayers.
There will of course be hymns and a full service with the usual congregation, so that will be lovely.
Then, when we have finished, the family and guests stay behind, and we do a short memorial service, which will include some prayers, a bible reading, the eulogy, and the Farewell and a reference to the committal. It will be very fitting, beautiful and not too long.”

I would be grateful if you would email the members of the CBMW to let them know.  Should anyone wish to email their condolences directly to his family their details are as follows:

Daughter Joanna, who lives in Equador - Jo_reason@yahoo.co.uk and Daughter Belinda who lives in Torrevieja – Belinda Delestrez – belindacoghill5@gmail.com  & mobile 692 767 377.    Joanna unfortunately will be unable to attend the service.      Belinda would be pleased to receive any anecdotes/memories etc for inclusion in the memorial service.

Thanking you,

Sincerely
Llona Martin on behalf of the family
CBMW member 1988-2005

We send our condolences to Peter's Family.
